SESAC x Karousel | Vanguards, Joshua Burnside, LEIO, Harry Pane
Tue 7 Mar
Carrying on from January’s year opening sell out, Karousel Music & SESAC are back for one heck of a Pre SXSW showcase. One for the A&R scouts this month, and one for the lovers of eclectic lineups. We’ve jagged, lyrically potent industrial indie folk; classy, sassy, heartsizzled electronic pop; 5 litre engined Indie Pop with an 80’s flicknife; and folk tinged, singer songwriter with a sunroof. Get. Along.

/// JOSHUA BURNSIDE ///
Whatever you make of what is going on in the world around us today, one thing is for sure: It’s about time our musicians and songwriters rediscovered the ability to distil it into sonic pitchforks. The first thing that hit us about Northern Irish experimental folk songwriter and producer Joshua Burnside was exactly that. With a way with words that’s not just clever, but comes at subject matter from a slight angle, Josh is an artist who has that raw potential to be a voice of a whole new generation. We got the same feeling listening to his first couple of tunes we got when we first heard Willy Mason, so much potential. With a brooding, powerful sound echoing artists of places afar and time long gone, there’s something jagged and right-now about his sound too. Great production, fragile, yet ultimately commanding, chamber folk sound gloriously underpinned with unique zeal and insane beats. Check out the videos for a taster.
/// VANGUARDS ///
Driving, hook laden nuclear powered Brighton four piece ‘Vanguards’ formed in late 2015 creating driving, anthemic guitar fronted pop. Inspired by the sounds of the 80’s, they’re influences range from The Police to Tom Petty, whilst stamping their own unique style on an ever popular sound. They release debut single ‘Rosie & The Black Heart’ Spring 2017, recorded with renowned producer ‘Steve Harris’ (Dave Matthews, Kodaline). An absolutely blinding band.
“Songs with a stadium-esque swagger, a radio-friendly mindset and serves as a statement of intent from a songwriting talent to be reckoned with.” – XYZ Magazine.
/// L E I O ///
A British pop artist/singer songwriter born to an Indian Father and English mother, LEIO has just finished her debut EP with Italian hitmakers The Caesars. While there’s no quotes to draw from as she’s straight out of the blocks, the links should give you a good idea. If Too Late has isn’t a hit in the making, then we’ll run around Eton College in oversized donald trump underpants while future Prime Ministers throw pennies at us.
/// HARRY PANE ///
Based in Walthamstow, by way of Northamptonshire, Harry recorded the Changing EP at Studio Barxeta with Dani Castelar (Paolo Nutini, REM, Snow Patrol). He claimed the ‘Best Original Artist’ Award while part of PRS For Music’s #RoadToThe100Club resulting in a development fund with Island Records. He’s already performed at SXSW, Glastonbury, Car Fest and The Big Festival. Harry has also enjoyed radio support from John Kennedy at Radio X, Amazing Radio, BBC Introducing London and BBC Northampton. Citing influences from Scott Matthews to Rag N Bone Man, a young man with a proper set of pipes on him.
