Paper Dress Presents an evening of wonderful live music from our unique shop window stage in Hackney Central. On Friday 24 June we welcome…

NO CARS
https://www.facebook.com/nocarsmusic/
A musical cocktail served to you in a pop glass accidentally by Jap girls and a racoon… on a rollercoaster!!

“Drinks are spilt. Gobs are creaking open. There’s a girl group on stage – and Japan certainly seems to be their point of origin – but do human beings this uncomplicated really still exist?

Once you get over their innocence, the second most striking thing about No Cars is their gimmick; it’s a sheet music stand in front of the stage. On it are about 10 cards with illustrations on them.

After each song, they pull the cards off to reveal cartoons, maps… weird doodles. Which may well be very ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’ – but it’s twisted too. The band play 1950s heartbreak classics with the odd screaming breakdown thrown in to keep the punks happy. Japanese bands are well known for ripping off the West and making it seem fresh – but this is actually moving.” – ARTROCKER MAGAZINE

THE FISH POLICE

The Fish Police are made up of Dean Rodney (singer, rapper, songwriter), Matthew Howe (guitar) and Charles Stuart (keys, co-songwriter and background vocals). All three are from South London.

The Fish Police are huge music fans and their influences range from Daft Punk and Kraftwerk to Eminem and Bob Marley. The group also infuse their music with their love of Japanese culture, computer games, popular culture and fast food.

MENACES

“Menaces are that most clichéd of dinosaurs: a ‘guitar’ band (remember them???) like the Arrows of Truth or the Fabulous Freeloaders or… i dunno… Herman’s Hermits (which reminds me: ask David Barnett if he’s heard of the Sex Pistols). They are from London. Or Athens… or maybe from New Haven, Arizona. It’s not clear. Two things are for sure: They are old enough to know better and they actually believe this shit. Give me Herman’s Hermits anyday.”
