Music is the most significant component of Alevi cultural life. ‘There is no word without the instrument, and no instrument without the word’.

Ikrar is an Alevi music group based in London, performing ancient and modern Alevi değiş music with the bağlama, guitar and violin. Alevism is a minority belief system which exists throughout the Balkans, Anatolia, Mesopotamia and Central Asia. The main form of worship in Alevism consists of music with the bağlama and dance with the Semah. Feelings, thought and beliefs of the Alevi community are mainly expressed with the accompaniment of music. Our young ‘minstrels’ from Ikrar will display this beautiful link between music and culture.
