Knickers came into being when Sarah answered an advert Simon had placed on Gumtree.com that read “French Girl Wanted” (it sounded weird then & it sounds weird now). He sent her some of his wonky demo recordings (influenced by Sixties pop, French ye-ye, modern girl groups & old R & B) & she sang on top of them.
