Deeper Cuts: Naná Rizinni (EFG London Jazz Festival)

Limited tickets available HERE

Deeper Cuts celebrates jazz-ish music – artists giving it a twist, fusing it with other gloriousness and pushing things forward. It’s a regular live night at the warm, welcoming Paper Dress Vintage in Hackney.

We return for our 2nd year at the EFG London Jazz Festival with São Paulo drummer and producer Naná Rizinni!

Glitchy and glorious, Naná’s new album EPIBLAST puts the Brazilian beat-master in a progressive electronic jazz setting.

Raw and rhythmic. Drums, sax and synths. She’ll rip the roof off our East London home.

Naná will be joined on the lineup by curator and DJ Karl Bos, and our other artist for the evening will be announced very soon – but don’t sleep on this one!

NANÁ RIZINNI

Born and raised in São Paulo, Naná’s journey began in the subversive music scene of South America’s biggest city. Over the past 20 years, she’s released four solo albums, toured with countless Brazilian greats and played around the world from Lollapaloza to SXSW to Primavera.

Naná jumped across the Atlantic in 2020, and has spent the past two years building her electronic jazz masterpiece EPIBLAST, with co-writer, producer and saxophonist Mark Cake – who will feature in her trio alongside modular synthesist and keys maestro Lazy H.

Raw, textural, driving. Somewhere in the realm of acts like The Comet Is Coming, corto.alto and Richard Spaven.

With support across BBC radio, The Quietus and beyond – and after acclaimed shows at The Vortex and Ronnie Scott’s – we’re delighted to have Naná grace the Paper Dress stage!

“I’ve absorbed influences for years, from Brazilian traditions to UK experimental jazz, and this album is the first time I’ve found a language that feels fully mine.”

KARL BOS (DJ)

Deeper Cuts is curated by Karl Bos, who is a DJ and the host of a long-running show of the same name on Soho Radio. He’s immersed in new music as a national jazz radio producer.

It’s a not-for-profit event, with everything after costs going to the artists on top of their fees. Supporter tickets are for people who want to and can afford to pay a little more. Equally, if the low-income tickets are gone and the ticket price is a barrier, please drop us a line on [email protected].
