Des Was a Bowie Fan vs Paper Dress ft. T.O.Y.S, ¡Ay Carmela! and Chrissy Barnacle

Des Was A Bowie Fan is back at Paper Dress for their regular final Friday of the month shinding – expect smouldering krautrock, full-throttle DIY punk-pop and some lyrical folk wonderment!

T.O.Y.S return to headline the night after a rip-roaring set exactly one year ago that lifted the summer hats off the mannequins. The band are a compelling, rollicking concoction of Adam John Miller’s breathless bass-lines, Eddie Lines’ compulsive drums and Dave Kitchen’s fuzzy keyboard and searing head-rush vocals; a twisting, twirling, kamikaze krautrock drag-racer that’ll leave with your heart. Their X-Static EP, released last year via Odd Box Records, has been a dancefloor favourite at DWaBF, and the band are all set to release their debut LP.

¡Ay, Carmela! are a three-piece made-up of members of the ace lyrical feminist Pop band Colour Me Wednesday, DIY pop-punks Block Fort and the acoustic folk bands Damsel and Let’s Go Nowhere, fuzzing it up with songs that alternately roll with crashing bass, guitar and drums and flutter with a wonderfully melodious melancholy.

And Chrissy Barnacle brings her rich, labyrinthine, sweetly-twisting lyrical tunes down from Glasgow via the shores of the Clyde. Chrissy has self-released 3 EPs of sparkling songs about love, self-discovery, sexuality, bravery and hazelnut induced ecstatic states. Expect the sweetly-poetic and the really quite special.

Then at 10.30pm, Kerouac’s bandanna will land on the lampshade with the touch of a Crystals chorus, dimming the lights for the ghosts of 60s Pop, gospel soul, garage punk, rock’n’roll, jive and swing to join the most shimmering indiepop, riot grrrl, new wave, post-punk and klezmer in an indie barndance till the milkman comes.

All flaming limbs at the front line x

T.O.Y.S
A three piece indiepop band formed in Leeds in 2010. David Kitchen plays a baby Yamaha keyboard through a mighty speaker, Adam John Miller plays fuzz bass and Eddy Lines plays drums. A collaboration project that quickly took on momentum, the result is an uptempo blend of lo-fi pop, krautrock and dancefloor indie. Having brought out the storming X-Static LP last year, the title song from which is a dancefloor favourite at DWaBF, the band are revving up for the release of their debut LP. https://www.facebook.com/pages/TOYS/172182072818345
