A Cocada da Pazsarinho is an independent project focused on the presentation and revival of Brazilian, Afro-diasporic, and Latin musical traditions passed down through oral expression, with both original compositions and songs from old masters and singers that represent the guardian force of a diverse identity. This initiative arises from the itinerant movement of “samba de coco” circles worldwide, guided by multi-intrumentalist, singer, composer, and tambourine player Sara Porpino.
The “coco de roda,” a tradition from Northeastern Brazil, originated from the work songs of coconut harvesters, specifically in Pernambuco and Alagoas. It has spread into various forms through different dances and rhythms, with the presence of the “ganzá” and foot stomping giving life to the festivities. The repertoire is drawn from the journeys of a curious nomad exploring the world, bringing a glimpse of regions visited, and celebrating these beautiful rituals and customs.
A sensory experience, the performance wishes to joyfully connect audiences and bring new life to our daily experiences through movement, enhancing our understanding of our history as a people. With a powerhouse band drawing from various influences, the show includes a special tasting of coconut sweets and a fruit table prepared by Pazsarinho herself.
