Fri 30 May 19:30pm
Hold onto your hats for this one – a Des Was A Bowie Fan night stripped of all unnecessary parts to become a drag racer, a sheer gasoline path of a Pop club lighting up Curtain Road like a 7-hour explosion.
Special guests on the shop window stage will be Tyrannosaurus Dead, T.O.Y.S and Wolf Girl, three bands with the requisite fire-proof pants and songs wild enough to ride tops off down the highway.
You might have heard Tyrannosaurus Dead‘s Sadie at the night before, jumping out of the speakers with the kind of feral roar that plays your heartstrings like Harpo’s harp. There’s more where that came from – a shitload more actually. They’re a 5-headed beast pointing the way to Pop nirvana. Keep Pop Loud says their EP fulfilled their band name after 4 seconds of listening. Des Death calls them a bat-mobile to the indie dancefloor of your dreams – http://tyrannosaurusdead.bandcamp.com/track/sadie
T.O.Y.S are the perfect accompaniment for any night spent screeching along on two wheels around a perpetual corner, metaphorically speaking of course. They’re a ripping, tearing and rollicking keyboard, drum and fuzzy bass-driven three-piece with a rich interior world; the sounds of tender heartbeats round a junkyard fire, Karen Condom falling in love with Thornton Halfwit while the estate burns around them and Alan Alloys doing donuts in his corvette with the trailor attached – http://toystheband.bandcamp.com/track/make-luv
Wolf Girl meanwhile are like 3 bands in one (The Ramones, Shop Assistants and Bratmobile will do for now), with a bunch of droolworthy garage Pop and riot grrrl-doo-wop heartbreakers jagged and torn at the edges like Dai Dreamer’s heart – https://soundcloud.com/wolfgirlbanduk/hey-wolfgirl-live
Then at 11pm, following a guest DJ slot TBC, Kerouac’s handkerchief will rest on the lampshade, lowering the lights for the ghosts of swing jazz, 60s girl groups, garage and rock’n’roll to join the most shimmering, pulsing and fuck off new wave, post-punk, riot grrrl and indiepop in a dancio disco till the milkman comes.
All flaming limbs at the front line.
