Slow Radio
Named after fast radio bursts, flashes of radio waves from distant galaxies, Slow Radio is a 5-piece musical outfit that write abstract protest songs under a London Overground track in Mile End. Just a few weeks before the first Covid-19 lockdown, the band began remixing and updating 10 years worth of songs guitarist Jake Stow, drummer Sam Bartrop and singer/sampler operator Jack Bartrop had written together and apart while studying and working in Brighton, Madrid and Amsterdam. Since settling in East London, Milo Cave was conscripted to provide much needed bass and guitarist Matt Hocine politely asked to join after hearing the group through the walls of their practice space.
False Futures
The group make an obvious nod towards guitar bands of the 90’s early 00’s, namely in their decision to marry abrasive guitars with pop sensibilities. Lyrically, storytelling flips between being the subject and observer of the everyday experience, the trials and triumphs familiar to anyone in their 20’s in the capital – ‘looking for the universal in the particular’ as John Cooper Clarke might assert.
Ello Sun
Ello Sun is an alternative/ rock/ psychedelic and experimental 5 piece band.
Elea or Ello, is leading the band with her heavy and melodic bass lines and her ethereal lead vocal melodies. By her side, Rosa is playing some catchy synth lines giving the music a synth pop vibe as well as singing with her angelic voice.
Aaron is taking you out of this world with his hypnotising and well processed cello, and his “thrill giving” backing vocals. And finally, the rhythm section with Andrew on drums and Ben on percussion is driving a strong groove through the whole set. You can hear influences from king gizzards, Bjork, Blonde redhead…
