Indigo Sessions Present: Maz O’Connor // Chalky Seas // Hazey Jane // Arc Isla // Hannah Symons

Indigo Sessions present a folk music special!

Maz O’Connor

Maz O’Connor is one of the most exciting young voices in British folk, and is quickly establishing herself as a bold and compelling songwriter.

She sings both re-worked traditional folk songs and her own thoughtful compositions, and accompanies her uniquely pure voice with guitar, tenor guitar, piano and occasionally shruti box.

Her latest album ‘The Longing Kind’ was released in February and is her most accomplished yet. Compared to Joni Mitchell by The Guardian and given 5 stars by Songlines, ‘The Longing Kind’ is O’Connor’s work maturing into something brave and beautiful.

‘A perfect blend of youthfulness and gravitas ****’ The Observer

‘Remarkable songwriting talent…captivating voice ****’ Q Magazine

Chalky Seas

A laid back, indie folk band from East Anglia. The line up is made up by 4 like-minded musicians that all met within the local music scene throughout the years. With their ‘gypsy-esque’ style strumming patterns and their ‘rootsy’ lyrics comes a very easily listenable ‘Chalky Seas’, appealing to all. With their ‘CAVALIER’ EP set to be released in March 2016 they are currently building a strong following through the early release of their single ‘Plastic Friends’ which has been received well.

Hazey Jane

Hazey Jane are an English folk-indie quintet from London. Hackney based, harmony driven and easily confused, the band are indebted to Nick Drake, CSNY and John Prine. From such artists, Hazey Jane have derived their own bona fide craft of songmanship, exhibited most poignantly throughout their recent live EP. Recorded at Total Refreshment Studios, Dalston, and produced by band confidant Mr Sander Van Laere.

Arc Isla

Arc Isla is four piece indie band from Nottinghamshire UK.
Their goal is to carve a way out of the midlands countryside with their idiosyncratic and courages sound.

The band’s synth filled melodic breakdowns and hard hitting shimmering guitars, as well as notable lead lines set it apart from the well known indie sound and creates it’s own place within the genre and an atmosphere that is hard not to dance in.
Vocal harmonies make up a big part of the bands sound, creating ambient moments of bliss between the fast paced and high energy drum fills.

‘Catchy, listenable and full of verve..’ – Trevor Locke, Music in Leicester

Hannah Symons

Hannah Symons is a singer-songwriter from Bath, living in London. Starting her career as a backing singer for The Heavy aged just 17, Hannah quickly got the bug for songwriting, penning her first song with The Heavy’s sister band The Snugs, aged 18.

More recently, Hannah was seen on The Voice UK 2015, having a full house of chair turns and making it up to the Knockouts of the competition.

Hannah Symons has many female influences, including Adele and Amy Winehouse, but her original music is that of a more ‘feisty’ edge to heartbreak!
